This series of prose poems takes as its central themes the heart, self-discovery, and self-renewal. In "I Took My Heart into the Fields of Light," the speaker embarks on a profound journey of self-reflection, venturing into a vast, ethereal space and encountering both desolation and renewal. "The Mallards" contemplates cynicism and hope, drawing parallels between the speaker's physical journey and the traditional Eastern legend of a prince who transmuted adversity into beauty. "Something Fluttered, Down in the Bare Branches," follows a speaker's observations of a sparrow in the heart of a bare-branched tree, leading them to contemplate the nature of their own heart, center, and source.
