Description

Carter and Bobby, two friends from Chicago, are at a Midwestern craft and art festival searching for treasures to sell in their art gallery. Carter spots an old lady, Lois, painting a landscape with a hidden Civil War sketch underneath her newer work. Intrigued by the possibility of valuable artwork, Carter and Bobby strike up a conversation with Lois and her sister, Hilda. They discover the sisters have inherited a collection of old Civil War sketches from their great grandfather, an aspiring artist who worked in Chicago during the war. After Carter discovers the quality and potential value of the artwork, he negotiates a deal with an oilman who is also interested in the paintings. Carter purchases the entire crate of canvases for $20,000, leaving the oilman disappointed but eager to purchase a pelican painting from Lois. Comparable works include The Devil Wears Prada
