Description

In an alternate history American Union of Nations, shadowed by a growing conflict between the Organized Western States and the Republic of Texas, Victor Eastmore grapples with a complex web of secrets, betrayals, and mental illness. Haunted by his grandfather's murder and his own mirror resonance syndrome (MRS), a condition that makes him doubt his own senses, he finds himself caught in a power struggle involving powerful corporations, a mysterious Diamond King, and a radical movement known as the Human Lifers. Victor's journey takes him through New Venice in the Louisiana Territories, where he encounters a diverse cast of characters, including his manipulative aunt Circe, his duplicitous friend Ozzie, and a troubled and murderous boogeyman named Samuel Miller, who is responsible for the Carmichael Massacre. As Victor navigates a world of advanced technology, government censorship, and societal unrest, he faces a crucial decision: embrace a new community that rejects medication and the Classification Act, or return to his family's legacy and the powerful BioScan corporation, a company implicated in his grandfather's death. The story explores themes of identity, family, responsibility, and the search for truth in a world where reality is constantly shifting. Comparable works include The Lathe of Heaven, Neuromancer, Annihilation, The Girl with All the Gifts, Dark Matter, A Fractured Infinity, Altered Carbon
