Description

In a quaint Greenwich Village, two artists, Johnsy and Sue, share a studio. Johnsy falls ill with pneumonia and becomes fixated on a dying ivy vine outside her window, believing that when the last leaf falls, she will die. Sue, determined to save her friend, enlists the help of their neighbor, Behrman, a struggling artist. Behrman, moved by Johnsy's despair, creates a masterpiece by painting a single ivy leaf onto the wall, giving Johnsy the will to live. But in a tragic twist, Behrman dies of pneumonia shortly after, having sacrificed himself for Johnsy's life. Comparable works include The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry
